SUBJECT: Home Economics
TOPIC: Thanksgiving Recipe on PowerPoint
GRADE: 6th grade

INTRODUCTION
On a traditional Thanksgiving Day, we gather around with loved ones, say what we are thankful for and EAT!!! In honor of Thanksgiving, we will celebrate by bringing in our favorite side dishes and having our own Thanksgiving dinner in class. (YUMMMMMMM!!) Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about the turkey! That would be provided by me.
TASK
You and your group will be deciding on one side dish that you will be bringing to our Thanksgiving dinner. Your group will need to research this recipe on FoodNetwork.com. Your group will need to prepare this dish in class and simultaneously take pictures to represent your preparation. Your group will then present the chosen side dish recipe on PowerPoint. Finally, we will celebrate by bringing all of the side dishes to class and eating!
PROCESS
DAY 1:
You will break up in groups of 5.
Your group will decide on a side dish to bring to dinner. Make sure to ask other groups what they are going to bring so we won’t have 2 of the same side dishes.
Your group will get the recipe for the chosen side dish on FoodNetwork.com. Print this recipe out and make sure everyone gets a copy.
Your group will then decide on which ingredients they will be bringing in.
DAY 2:
Your group must start preparing the side dish. Before you do this, your group will be given a digital camera.
Pick one person in the group to take pictures for each step of the preparation.
Decide which step of the preparation you want to set up and start.
DAY 3:
Open up PowerPoint on your computer.
You will be presented with a slide (blank page). You will put the name of the side dish you are preparing where it says: Click to add title. You will then put in the name of all the members of the group where it says: Click to add title.
*Feel free to decorate the page. You can do this by going to Insert. Select Picture then Clip Art and type in what you want a picture of. You can also pick a different template (background) as opposed to the dull white, by clicking on Design.
When you are done with slide 1, you can start on slide 2 by clicking: New Slide on the top right hand side. This slide should be titled: INGREDIENTS. You will then list all of your ingredients here.
After you are done with the Ingredients section, move on to a new slide. This slide should be titled: Preparation. Type in STEP 1, in the body. Under this, you will write the first step of your preparation.
Connect the digital camera to the computer.
Click on Insert, select picture and click on from camera. You should insert the picture for the first step of the preparation under step 1.
After you are done, move on to a new slide. This slide should be titled: PREPARATION. Type in STEP 2, in the body. Under this, you will write the second step of your preparation.
Insert the digital picture corresponding to the second step.
Continue with this process till you are completely done with all the steps in the preparation.
Save this PowerPoint onto a USB drive.
DAY 4:
Open your PowerPoint presentation.
Continue from where you left off. Your next slide should be titled: DIRECTIONS.
Type all of the steps under directions.
After your directions slide is done, open a new slide, name it: THANKS and write what each of you are thankful for.
Pick one person in your group that will be taking the prepared food to the house. This person will be responsible for cooking the food and bringing it to class tomorrow for our THANKSGIVING DINNER!!!!
